Everything, Everywhere, Bottles of Sunlight

So, here I am

just sitting at my table

waiting for the inner critic to jump off a cliff

and then I will fly

without that critic,

without that guy

Then I will laugh and convince the people to buy

Bottles of sunlight

Fill them with dread

What?

Bottles of sunlight, they’re made of lead

What are you saying?

They are so good.

Too much is bad,

But just the right amount rules?

That’s what we’ll talk about

That’s what we’ll say,

give them a moment

Make their whole day,

A 3 ounce pour,

thoughtfully consumed

15 minutes with someone

To smile and to sip

To Smell and perceive

Thousands of flowers

in their one glass

The beauty of life

Makes for a laugh

The beauty of life,

never so bad

Drink it again, maybe with food,

Slow down again, with desert too

Do it again,

smell, sip,

slow down and smile

before going to bed

Life will be different

That’s what he said,

The Wizard of Mead, the Poet Kvasir

The One Eyed old king

Who wander instead

He gave up his eye

To read the runes

He balanced his mind

Imagination and rules

The balance is in us

Seeking itself

We are the vessel

The music and light

We are the instruments

Playing the night

The day lights us up

And we are inside

The day and the night

are riding the tides

We never knew something

so great and profound

Could keep us together

Spinning ourselves

Exploding out universe

One song together

Making the harmony

and chaos too

It depends on perspective

Your point of view

I can hear music

When I tune in

A gentle humming

That laughs and feels good

I can hear music deep and intense

Sometimes it scares me

Feels too immense

I am a poet weaving these words

They come from somewhere

that I’d like to know

I feel the aliveness start in my spine

Above my sacrum

(Feels quite divine)

A lot of power then

flows to my chest,

The Solar plexus, pushes up

blessed/best/unrest

Then there's the heart space

Holding so much,

learning to let go

Learning to trust

This world that I love is perfect as is

Nothing is needed

All will forgive

whatever’s imperfect

whatever is hard

Will melt and shift

Don’t try too hard

Go with the flow and find harmony

The throat it will open

The mind's eye will see

You are the maker of your destiny

Will you find currents that take you where you

Want to go freely

all your loves too

The beauty around you increasing each day

The kindness within you

Comes out to play

You are the weaver, the weaver of worlds,

The crown on your headspace

Holds your whole world

Infinite universes

Laundry and taxes

Infinite universes

The day to day choice

Will you hold it up

Make it the most?

Will you be laughing

Smiling in joy

Will you be singing

In harmony?

We are here for you

To find the beat

We are here with you

Now let’s drink some mead

-F.R.G. 2023

“A drink I took of the magic mead, and I began to grow, and to be wise… to grow and to weave poems.”   Odin, The Runahal

Hello Dear Friends in Mead!

I hope you enjoyed that poem. It’s longer than most, but I wrote it in 10 minutes.  Edited it in another 10. It came through the way it did because I recently watched Everything Everywhere, All at Once, the Best Picture, Academy Award winning action/comedy/existential/sci-fi/coming of age story that is capturing the world’s imagination and helping people to make sense about the deep truth of this reality we share.

That poem is my way of making sense of the film and its themes of Laundry and Taxes, Infinite Universes, the power of awakened consciousness and the human ability to create suffering or joy, chaos or cosmos/harmony.

And, hopefully, there is a little instruction on the art of enjoying mead with another.

To make that instruction clear, here it is:

Pour 3 ounces of wildflower traditional mead in each glass at a time.

Breathe in the essence of thousands of flowers when you sniff it.
Taste the essence of thousands of flowers when you put the mead in your mouth.

Feel the experience of thousands of flowers’ essence becoming a part of you with your whole being. (base of spine, sacrum, solar plexus, chest/heart space, throat, brow, top of head)

Share that experience with the person (people) you’re sipping with. (Gently ask them what they smell and taste and feel. See if you smell and taste and feel the same things. Or something different? Do what you taste and smell and feel together match? Or do your experiences compliment each other? Or contrast with each other? Does hearing what your partners experience make the experience richer for you and vice versa?)

Enjoy food together and do it again. 3-4 ounces in each glass, sniff, sip, swish, swallow, savor, feel. See how the food changes the experience.

Enjoy dessert together and do it again.

Maybe do it again before bed.

You get 8 3 ounce pours in one bottle. Or 6 4 ounce pours, so if two people share a bottle, that's 4 or 3 pours per person, 3 or 4 luminous experiences to dive into together and feel deep joy and pleasure together…

Look for the flowers, try to speak from your heart.  Gently bring your own and each other’s attention to the beauty around you. Beeswax candles (or other candles) can help.  Flowing, Lyrical and harmonious music can too.

I hope that your days are joyful, and your nights are beautiful.
